(JollofNews) – The Gambian army is warning against importing and wearing camouflage or regalia resembling military uniforms by civilians and other various security agencies other than the armed forces.
In a statement yesterday, the Gambia National Army, through its Public Relations Officer, Lieutenant-Colonel Omar B. Bojang, said it noted with grave concern a proliferation in the sale and wearing of military regalia by the public.
“These acts are a serious security breach which have far-reaching implications bordering on national security. The use of military fatigue and items in the Gambia are only limited to serving members of the Gambia Armed Forces,” the statement said.
“Consequent upon the above, the general public is hereby strictly warned to desist from such acts. Members of other security services are equally prohibited from the use of military items or wears whether on duty or not.”
The army has urged local businesses and individuals who have already imported military items for the purpose of sale or personal use to surrender them to the Gambia Armed Forces military Police at Yundum, Fajara and Farafenni Barracks or to any nearest military establishment.

The Gambia Armed Forces (GAF) has issued a stern warning against what it called “the unwarranted use of military items and wears” by members of the general public.
The statement, signed by GAF spokesman Lt Colonel Omar Bojang, said it has come to the attention of GAF that some businesses and individuals are in the habit of importing, selling or using military items and wears.
“These acts are serious security breach which have far reaching implications bordering on national security. The use of military fatigue and items in The Gambia are only limited to serving members of the Armed Forces,” GAF said. “The general public is hereby strictly warned to desist from such acts.”
GAF said members of other security services are equally prohibited from the use of military items or wears whether on duty or not.
Any institution, company or individuals that wish to do business with the Gambian Armed Forces must seek the consent of the office of the Chief of Defence Staff through a formal notice prior to importation.
In the statement, the armed forces said all businesses and individuals who have already imported military items for the purpose of sale or personal use are kindly urged to surrender all those items to the Gambia Armed Forces Military Police at Yundum, Fajara and Farafenni Barracks or to any nearest military establishment.
