Why has linksunten been down?

Indylogo

Indy linksunten was down for part of the 31st of October. The server that hosts linksunten.indymedia.org is located in New York City and it is run by mayfirst.org. The data centre on 85, 10th Avenue, Manhattan lost its internet connection. The root cause was a power outage at mayfirst's upstream provider Hurricaine Electric due to Hurricaine Sandy.

October 31: 6:20 pm America/New York: We are currently experiencing in outage in our Telehouse location. We suspect it is Hurricane Sandy related and will report back when we have more information.

October 31: 6:46 pm America/New York: We have confirmed that the problem is not a loss of electricity in our cabinet. Instead, our Internet provider is down because the facility providing their base of operations in New York has temporarily lost generator power. That means that the moment they are back up, we will also be back up. Our Internet provider reported that they expect to be up in an hour. We will keep you posted.

October 31: 8:05 pm America/New York: Still no update from our upstream provider or a revised ETA.

October 31: 9:00 pm America/New York: Still no update from our upstream provider or a revised ETA.

October 31: 10:13 pm America/New York: Our upstream Internet provider (Hurricane Electric) reports that they have lost power in their main New York facility (provided by Equinix). Equinix's generator has failed and they are working on fixing it.

October 31: 11:22 pm America/New York: We are back online.
