After the declaration made by former president Yahya Jammeh, that he will step down and hand over power to President Adama Barrow, on Friday, 20 January, 2017, the youths of Tallinding came out on the Brikama Westfield high way to celebrate the victory of president Adama Barrow on the December 1st 2016 Presidential election.

Speaking to Foroyaa, one Lamin Marong residing in Tallinding and a teacher who has been teaching for the past five years, said teachers are the reliable tool of any developing country and they must be considered first. According to him, teachers equipped the individuals who work in all government sectors with the knowledge required but they are considered less important in society. “Since I started teaching, I have never seen a teacher who bought a car or compound with his salary, the salaries of teachers has never increased they are just regarded as noble professors,” he lamented. Mr. Marong said Barrow should consider all sectors of government and see how to improve their living conditions so as to build a better Gambia that its citizens will be proud to live in.

“We are celebrating the victory of President Elect Adama Barrow today with the expectation that better will come in his regime’’ says one Mariama Fadera a tailor residing in Tallinding. Fadera said the changes they were yearning for has come to reality and all the people are expecting Barrow, the elected President to work hard for The Gambians and should know that he is there for the people. He call on President Barrow to ensure the reduction of the prices of all basic commodities to make it affordable and introduce a price control scale, increase salaries and allow outsiders to come in and open up their businesses. “The President Elected should construct companies and employ the youths so that they will stop the illegal migration and work for their country,’’ Fadera explained.

Speaking to a passerby Momodou Badjie, whose relative was once been arrested and detained for more than one month without any trial, said many people have been arrested and detained without taking them to any trial in the courts which is unlawful, and some have been missing and their relatives were not able to trace them for many years which is not good. ‘’This regime should look into that also, everything the government is doing should be transparent and in accordance with the Constitution and laws of the land, anybody who is a reader of Foroyaa newspaper will be able to testify to this even some radios,’’ he asserted.

Jammeh has done his part and now we are waiting for Barrow, he noted.
